ITG Basic Unit Installation and Reference Guide

Installation

This section describes the processes for installing your Internet Telephony Gateway and prior setting.

3.1 Package Contents

The contents of your product should contain the following items:

3.2 Hardware Installation

This section briefly describes how to install your Internet Telephony Gateway and how to connect it to other devices.

To install the ITG:

  1. Remove the gateway and other contents from the package.
  2. Locate an area where standard electrical outlets and other network devices are within easy reach.
  3. Place the gateway on a flat, stable surface or mount it on a rack, depending on the version purchased.
  4. Connect 10Base-T or 100Base-TX devices such as PCs, workstations, and other equipment to the ITG using standard UTP/STP Ethernet network cables with RJ-45 connectors.
  5. Plug the connector on the power adapter into the DC power adapter socket on the back panel of gateway and plug the power plug into a standard power outlet, OR plug the power cord into the AC socket on the back panel of the gateway and plug the power plug into a standard power outlet.

Note:

  1. The accepted power range is 100~240VAC, 50~60Hz
  2. To prevent from costly data loss, please consider use an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) for your ITG. In some area, installing a surge suppression device may also help to protect your device from being damaged by unregulated surge or current.

3.3 Initial Setup through Network (Recommended)

The default IP address of you ITG is: 192.168.0.1 with subnet: 255.255.255.192. If you are familar with the IP adderss setting, please setup your PC to the same domain, go to section 3.3.2 and skip the following section.

3.3.1 PC Setup

In order to configure the Internet Telephony Gateway (ITG), your PC needs to have

TCP/IP protocol and a compatible IP Address.

  1. Connect the ITG to your network with a RJ-45 UTP cable. Power it on.
  2. Find a PC, for example, Windows 95/98. Under Windows 95/98, select the Network Neighborhood icon on the desktop, then Properties. You will see a screen like the one below:

  1. Key in the IP address for your ITG to the same network domain of your network,  the IP address of your Gateway and subnet mask.
  2. Saveand power off/on to make the settings take effect.

After the ITG startup, you can then use the IP address assigned to it for more about the management in Chapter 4.

3.4 Initial Setup through RS-232 Console

This section describe how to change the IP address through the console port. To change the IP address and sub net mask you will need a VT-100 terminal or terminal emulator, and a straight through RS-232 cable with a DB9 male connector in one end.

To change the IP Address:

  1. Connect the DB9 male connector of the RS-232 cable to the DB9 female connector on the front panel of the gateway. Connect the other end of the cable to the terminal.
  2. Set the VT-100 terminal to operate at the parameters:
    • 19,200 baud
    • 8 data bits
    • no parity bit
    • 1 stop bit
    • No flow control.
  3. Power on the gateway.
  4. Type the following command line from the terminal when the gateway prompt comes out to change the IP address:
  5. net set ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <Enter>
    Note:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxis the IP address for the ITG.

  6. Type the following command line from the terminal to setup the Gateway for your ITG.
  7. net set gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <Enter>
    Note:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxis the IP address of your network gateway
