Whats the difference between the new (WL-3501, WAP-900) and (WL-3500, WAP-1000) |
Description | Difference: The major difference for WL-3501 and WAP-900 is that, the WL-3501 and WAP-900 are with new hardware and software that fully comply with IEEE802.11 standards. Base on it, the WAP-900 and WL-3501 should work with all the IEEE802.11 standard products. However, WL-3500 (F/W:v1.2), WL-2400 (F/W:v1.3), WAP-1000 (F/W: v1.3) are with proprietary technology that cannot communicate with WL-3501, WAP-900. This also means the current WL-3500 (v1.2) and WAP-1000 (v1.3), WL-2400 (v1.3) provide more security of your installation. Key features for WAP-900: a. Standard IEEE802.11 Access Point that serve for all IEEE802.11 client devices b. Seamless integration with IEEE802.3 Ethernet LAN c. Choice of Station mode. With the station mode, you can direct use straight UTP cable from your PC that installed with Ethernet Card to WAP-900, then the station comes to a Wireless station with no addition driver, utility or modification. d. Plug and play, easy installation and configuration e. Support peer-to-peer and Infrastructure network topology Key features for WL-3501: a. Fully Comply with IEEE802.11 b. Plug and Play, one piece design for easy installation c. Windows 95/98, NT, DOS ODI and packet driver for most popular OS and NOS. d. Window-base utility for easy Wireless environment diagnostic e. Support peer-to-peer/point-to-multipoint and Infrastructure network topology

Case 1: If there is no any Wireless devices in your network! Case 2: If I already have other IEEE802.11 complied devices! It is strongly recommended to install your Wireless devices with PLANETs wireless products that with version 2.0 firmware. The following is the detailed product information. WAP-900: Access Point without bridging function With those products, the Wireless LAN can also communicate with other IEEE802.11 compliant. Also, it supports friendly interface for management and setup. Case 3: If you would like to have a secured Wireless LAN! Case 4: If you already have PLANETs WL-3500 and WAP-1000 and plan to add some more nodes!
Remark: Please also refer to section More Information for more about the upgrade capability of your wireless devices. |

*** Hardware About the hardwares firmware upgrade, the following is the details: For WL3500, it can not upgrade to comply with IEEE802.11 standard. For WL-2400, would you please check the card for the capability? If there is no any IEEE802.11 sticker on the card, it can not being upgrade to comply with IEEE802.11. Or, you can use the DOS utility to check the capability. For firmware v1.3, yes, it is no problem to upgrade to new firmware 2.0. For WAP-1000, if there is an IEEE802.11 sticker and plan to make the device 802.11 compliant, please download the upgrade firmware from PLANET FTP server or CD-ROM (part no. ECD-WLv2) Warnning! a. The firmware v1.3 can upgrade to v2.0. And v2.0 can not downgrade to v1.3. b. To have the management, as soon as your WL-2400 / WAP-1000 upgraded to v2.0, please use the 2.0 utility as well. c. Firmware 1.2 can not upgrade v2.0. *** Software The software utility 2.0 is used to manage the WL-2400, WL-3501 ane WAP-1000 that are with firmware 2.0 or later. The utility 2.0, Windows-base utility, are friendly in setup and diagnose your Wireless devices. Those utilities and firmware will released in the end of June, please contact with us for the information. *** Installation hints Please also refer to PLANETs Web site for the information about it. |
